Job Title:           Senior Staff Accountant -Benefits

Salary Grade:     S634 __ $58,136 - $90,687

Department:     Finance & Benefit Services

Reports To:       Director Finance & Benefit Services

 

PURPOSE OF JOB:  Responsible for the execution of benefits and accounting functions in accordance with GAAP, applicable laws and district policies, procedures, and guidelines.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following.

 

 

  1. Ensure employee elections for benefit deductions and employer medical, dental, EAP and Life are set up in LINQ are accurate and deducted timely.
  2. Work with third party benefit enroller to maintain accurate census to ensure employees participate during period of eligibility.
  3. Create, maintain and submit electronic files in formats required by all benefits third parties who are recipients of payroll deductions.
  4. Prepare and submit to third parties benefit transaction details to support Accounts payable payments.
  5. Coordinate preparation of annual 1095 C tax forms distributed to employees.
  6. Reconcile benefit and benefit payroll deduction balance sheet accounts in the general fund, and all accounts in the Medical and Dental self-insurance fund.
  7. Coordinate employee census for open enrollment with third party vendors.
  8. Coordinate open enrollment load into LINQ and reconcile results.
  9. Upload to LINQ and reconcile annual open enrollment elections provided by third party benefit administrator.
  10. Reconcile monthly payroll deductions with third party administrator records.
  11. Reconcile Blue Cross weekly claims and monthly administration invoices.
  12. Coordinate election decisions with KCPS benefit specialists to ensure LINQ benefit set ups are correct.
  13. Maintain LINQ accounting rules and premium rates for benefit ded/ben codes.
  14. Database management and reconciliation of employee benefits and deductions.
  15. Assist with audit requests related to Blue Cross Health and Dental as required.
  16. Support management through data collection, analysis, and special projects.
  17. Coordinate the administration of the School District Administrative Claiming (SDAC) program.
  18. Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reading accounting publications.
  19. Maintain accounting records by keeping information secure and confidential.
  20. Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing job objectives.
  21. Cross-train in other functional areas as assigned by the director.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, MBA with emphasis in accounting, or CPA certification
  2. 7+ years of experience with demonstrated progress in responsibilities in accounting.
  3. Proficiency using personal computers and software including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. Requires master level skills in database analysis.
  4. Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
  5. Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Experience in software implementation and database management.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Length of work year: 12 months   7.5 hours per day/ 5 days per week; 260 workdays

KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
