Provides leadership in planning, coordinating, and facilitating a school-based framework of support and intervention for high school students at risk of dropping out or failing to graduate with their cohorts, and for previous high school dropouts as well as providing extended learning opportunities within the comprehensive high school.

 

Position Goal

Responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and for organizing and implementing an instructional program that result in students achieving academic success in accordance with District and state policies and laws.

 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for registering, enrolling, withdrawing students in coursework. Participate in training and become proficient in evaluating transcripts and graduation requirements of incoming students.
• Develop and provide instructional plans for recovering lost credits.
• Select and monitor teachers of record.
• Responsible for online learning and coordination.
• Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention and other strategies that can prevent initial failures.
• Identify other support services that can assist the student. Act as a liaison between student and services.
• Facilitate the pre-Missouri Option program.
• Provide ongoing emotional support and personal professional contact.
• Assist students in using hard copies and online programs to prepare for appropriate state and district exams.
• Assume overall responsibility for program implementation and results.
• Maintain appropriate and ongoing communication with parents/guardians, students, counselors, teachers, administrators, and district administration.
• Identify and monitor highly at-risk students as early as ninth grade.
• Identify and coordinate other support services that can assist the student. Act as a liaison between student and services.
• Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention, advocate for and identify other strategies that can prevent initial failures.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, staff and administrators to advocate for students.
• Collect and submit information to the Extended Learning department as necessary or as requested.
• Maintain inventory of equipment and materials assigned to the Extended Learning Lab and recommend replacement and maintenance as required.
• Provide two-way communication between district office and the site.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and behavior.
• Receive, distribute, and reply to communication sent to the Extended Learning Lab from district and/or site administration.
• Invite motivational/guest speakers to lecture to the students when appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including special assignments or emergency situations as determined by the office of Extended Learning or building administration.
• Guide the learning process for individual students to provide each the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of educational standards and objectives.
• Utilize a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students

 

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree;  Any Missouri 1-6 or 7-12 certification.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Three- five years of successful classroom teaching or in a related coaching/supporting/intervention role.

 

Required skills

• Ability to utilize word processing programs, Google Suite, Excel, online curriculum programs.
• Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Work independently with little direct supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate on group projects and work as part of a team.
• Must be responsible, accountable and self-motivated.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic to achieve school/program goals.
• Display effective prioritizing, organizing, and time-management skills; ability to meet aggressive deadlines.

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds.  Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year:  260 days; 7.5hrs/day, 5 days/week
