Position Title: Facilities Techician

Department: Facilities  

Position Type: Fulltime  

Salary Range: M2 | $20.00-$28.16/hour

 

Position Summary:  

The Facilities Technician plays a vital role in supporting the efficient operation of Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) facilities. This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and improvement tasks across all school buildings, ensuring safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments that foster an optimal learning experience. The Facilities Technician will work across multiple disciplines, including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and general construction, addressing both preventive and corrective maintenance needs while maintaining effective communication with school staff and administrators.

  • Respond promptly to repair requests and preventative maintenance tasks.

 

 What You’ll Be Doing: 

 

  • Facility Maintenance and Repairs  
    •  Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks across KCPS facilities, including minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs.  
    •  Identify and troubleshoot maintenance issues proactively to avoid costly repairs.  
    •  Coordinate with building staff to prioritize urgent repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations.  
    •  Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to schedule routine maintenance and inspection tasks.

 

  • Collaboration and Communication  
    •  Communicate regularly with school staff and administrators to update them on maintenance projects and schedules.  
    •  Provide timely updates to the Maintenance Supervisor regarding ongoing projects and emerging needs.  
    •  Maintain professional and courteous relationships with all staff, students, and visitors.

 

 

 To Be Successful at This Job, You’ll Need To:  

 

  • Bring Expertise and Vision  
    • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in building maintenance or trades preferred.  
    • Knowledge of Kansas City, Missouri and Missouri building codes. 
    • Ability to read blueprints and design sketches.
    •  Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintenance or a related field, preferably in an educational setting.  
    •  Proficiency with various maintenance tasks, including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems.  
    •  Ability to troubleshoot and solve issues independently.
  • Physical Capabilities 
    • Carrying tools and materials common to the trade. 
    • Able to lift 70lbs. 
    • Working from ladders, scaffolding and lifts. 
    • Working inside and outside in varios weather conditions
    • Providing personal transportation between job sites as needed
    • Performing preventative maintenance tasks as needed
    • Identifying problems and developing appropriate action plans and resolutions
    • Problem solving
    • Advise and train lesser skilled staff
    • Understaning complex multiple step, written and oral instructions.
