PURPOSE OF JOB: Directly supervise and coordinate work activities of Custodial staff while maintaining high standard of cleanliness throughout the physical facility that will provide a safe and clean environment conducive to learning. This position requires heavy manually and repetitive tasks
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise custodial staff assigned to building in order to provide additional accountability within the facilities and to assist junior staff with direction regarding performance and cleaning standards as needed. Trains staff as needed
- Opens the building, and meets with the Principal on a daily basis in order to discuss any questions, concerns or issues pertaining to the building (e.g. upcoming events, moves, etc.)
- Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds within scheduled frequency requirements (e.g. sweeps, mops, and/or vacuums floors; dusts and cleans offices, classrooms, and other work areas; strips, restores, and polishes floors as scheduled; collects and removes waste, washes walls, windows, and doors;) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment
- Disinfects required surfaces and fixtures (e.g. urinals, toilets, lavatories, partitions, waste baskets, trash cans, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining District sanitation standards
- Replenishes classroom, restroom supplies, and custodial closets (e.g. paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use
- Monitors cleaning, hazards, operational and/or safety concerns for the purpose of ensuring site safety.
- Change light bulbs that are burned out, flickering, or hazardous. Tag lights that are broken
- Performs a variety of building emergency procedures as needed (e.g. snow removal plan, fire drill, emergency weather plan, lock-down plan, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that emergency procedures are in order, alarm systems are operational. Regularly reviews drill with building principal
- Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g. changes vacuum cleaner belts, bags, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items
- Performs summer maintenance and cleaning (e.g. stripping and waxing floors; cleaning carpets; cleaning, repairing and moving furniture; etc.) for the purpose of preparing facilities for the school year
- Prepares site for daily operations (e.g. opening gates, raising flags, sweeping and/or salting walkways, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and hazard free
- Prepares written material (e.g. supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or relating activities to supervisor for action
- Completes school/building daily self-inspection checklist
- Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and or potential liability. Supports onsite events (e.g. after school activities, meetings, permit requests, etc.) for the purpose of completing site custodial activities in a safe and timely manner
- Other task as assigned by the immediate supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be able to read, write, and understand instructions written in English in order to effectively carry out responsibilities
- Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with administrators, district staff, teacher, students and general public, dealing with all individuals with courtesy, tact, good judgement and good customer service skills
- Must be able to work changing assignments and/or locations at the discretion of the area manager

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 12 months (8 hours per day/5 days per week)
