PURPOSE OF JOB: To effectively maintain, repair and renovate all facilities owned by KCPS to enhance the instructional environment for Professional Staff and Students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Capable of preparing a variety of surfaces for painting. ( cleaning, patching, sanding and masking)    
  • Capable of painting a variety of surfaces; building interiors, building exteriors, parking lots, floors, and outdoor furniture.  
  • Capable of applying a variety of paints, stains, sealers, and epoxy materials.      
  • Capable of removal and replacement of ceiling tile         
  • Capable of removing graffiti.           
  • Install and repair sheetrock           
  • Repair plaster walls           
  • Work assignments may require interior and exterior work in varying weather conditions.     
  • Work assignments may require working on ladders, scaffolding and lifts.      
  • Work assignments may be in any KCPS facility.         
  • Work assignments may include assisting with snow removal.        
  • Performs other duties as assigned.         

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma/GED plus four (4) years full-time directly related work experience.
  • Read and write English at the level normally attained in high school in order to read work orders and receive instructions from supervisor regarding painting.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers in person and by telephone using correct English and a courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of various paints and substitutes, paint tools, equipment, and methods of application.
  • Ability to work neatly in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to identify and express problems and develop solutions from alternative methods and procedures.
  • Ability to drive all types of light vehicles safely.
  • Ability to discriminate colors, visual depth relationships, and see near and far distances.
  • Detect odors by smell.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Have a high School diploma or G.E.D.         

Possess and maintain a working knowledge of the Kansas City, Missouri and Missouri Building Codes.   

Capable of reading blueprints.          

Capable of working from design sketches        

Capable of understanding and following written procedures and instructions.     

Capable of understanding and following verbal procedures and instructions.     

Possess knowledge of safe workplace practices.        

Capable of understanding complex multiple step written and oral instructions.     

Capable to advise and train lesser skilled staff.        

Capable of problem solving.          

Capable of identifying problems and developing appropriate action plans for resolution of the problem.   

Capable of preforming Preventative Maintenance tasks as assigned.      

Possess and Maintains  a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.    

Capable of providing personal transportation between job sites as needed.     

Capable of transporting and securing tools as assigned.       

Capable of carrying tools and materials common to the trade.       

Able to lift 70 pounds          

Must be able to work any shift.         

Capable of working from ladders, scaffolding and lifts.       

Capable of working inside and outside in various weather conditions.

Capable of determining the appropriate materials to be used on specific projects     

Ability to perform assigned tasks alone.         

Ability to work with others.                      

 

PREFERRED            

Minimum of two years as a journeyman or 6 years of successful experience in the trade.    

Capable of preparing labor and material cost estimates.       

Capable of planning and assigning work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 12 months; may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based on department needs.
