PURPOSE OF JOB:  Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrument music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to elementary students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, as well as, other duties as assigned:

  1. Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
  2. Utilizes a repertoire of all types of music literature, including tradition and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
  3. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  4. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
  5. Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  6. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  7. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
  8. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  9. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  10. Participates in facility committees and sponsorship of student activities.
  11. Supervises students in out of class activities.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University.
  • Missouri Teaching Certification – Instrument Music (K-12), or Vocal Music (K-12)

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds.  The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

 Length of work year:  8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 workdays
