Purpose of Job:
The Music Therapist provides individual and group music therapy services for students who are enrolled in an alternative education program. Must have a strong musical skill and adaptability when using guitar, piano, percussion, and voice. Must demonstrate ability to sight read, quickly learn new music, harmonize, improvise, teach, and confidently facilitate active music interventions while utilizing each instrument.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides individual and group music therapy to students, using specialized curriculum in elementary music that focuses on social emotional learning
- Assesses individuals referred for individual music therapy, prioritizes high-need individuals when referrals exceed hours available to complete sessions.
- Contributes to academic plans on individual clients based on students strengths with individualized, specific, measurable and time referenced goals in collaboration with the musical benchmarks.
- Utilizes a variety of music methodologies that are appropriate for students’ skill levels.
- Selects music and books and other instructional aids; and maintains required inventory records. .
- Shows sensitivity to and appreciation of issues related to age, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, and sexual orientation.
- Accepts and responds appropriately to feedback from administration, staff, supervisors and referral sources.
- Actively seeks ongoing professional development and knowledge of new evidence based practices in music for school aged children.
- Participates in staff and teacher meetings and staff development sessions.
- Other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy
- 1 to 3 years of prior related experience
- Music Therapy Board Certification (MT-BC)
- Must have knowledge of specific age-appropriate mental health care needs of children,
- CPR/First Aid Certification

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 12 month 7.5 Hours/day
