Purpose of Job:
The Art Therapist will utilize the creative process to help K-12 students to explore self-expression, lower stress and anxiety, build self-esteem and confidence, and process thoughts and feelings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides individual and group art therapy to students, using a specialized curriculum in K-12 Visual Arts that focuses on social emotional learning, self-expression, and creativity.
- Assesses students referred for individual art therapy, prioritizes high-need students to add fine arts education into daily academic schedule
- Implement trauma-informed and therapeutic activities to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students
- Contributes to academic plans on individual students based on students strengths with individualized, specific, measurable and time referenced goals in collaboration with the musical benchmarks.
- Utilizes a variety of art mediums that are appropriate for students’ skill levels.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids: maintains required inventory records.
- Actively seeks to resolve issues, problems and concerns.
- Shows sensitivity to and appreciation of issues related to age, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, and sexual orientation.
- Provides clinical services in a manner appropriate to the client's level of functioning.
- Accepts and responds appropriately to feedback from administration, staff, supervisors and referral sources.
- Actively seeks ongoing professional development and knowledge of new treatment modalities and evidence based practices.
- Participates in staff and teacher meetings and staff development sessions..
- Other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in art therapy
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience.
- Must be a Registered (ATR) or Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC).
- Must have knowledge of specific age-appropriate mental health care needs of children and adolescent patients.
- CPR/First Aid Certification required

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 12 month 7.5 Hours/day
