PURPOSE OF JOB
Teaches one or more subjects to students in public secondary schools by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assists the theater teacher by designing and sewing costumes for theater productions
- Uses character analysis and research to assure that an appropriate costume is designed for the character
- Selects patterns and fabric to ensure an authentic, pleasing costume
- May design patterns and costumes to assist in assuring that the costume is appropriate for the character
- Is responsible for the construction of the costumes for theater productions
- Teaches students in learning the basic elements of fashion and costume design, beginning figure and fabric drawing techniques
- Assists students in learning character analysis and research as they are related to costume design and the tools used in costume construction
- Teaches students to do handwork with a needle and thread and the use of the sewing machine and serger.
- Teaches students design media, including colored pencil and acrylic techniques
- Other content areas and duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
SUCCESS FACTORS
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching secondary level students.
- Teaching experience in urban schools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 185 day calendar; 8 Hours/day
