Job Title:  Audio-Visual Specialist II

Salary Grade: $24.15- $37.43

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: Manager of Technology Support

FLSA Status: Hourly

PURPOSE OF JOB:       Audio video (AV) technicians set up and operate the video, audio, and lighting equipment used to enhance live events. They assemble microphones, mix sound boards, coordinate graphics, operate spotlights, manage video recordings with live streaming, and provide AV technical support for KCPS District events.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meeting with Event Coordinators to discuss audio, lighting, and video requirements.
  • Altering venue arrangements according to layout diagrams.
  • Laying electrical and sound cables.
  • Setting up and installing microphones, lights, video monitors, projectors, speakers, and video cameras.
  • Conducting sound, visual, and performance quality checks on AV equipment.
  • Inspecting mountings and electrical equipment to ensure they conform to health and safety regulations.
  • Operating sound and visual equipment during live events.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and ensuring events run smoothly.
  • Maintaining strong customer relations and satisfaction.
  • Disassembling audio and visual equipment and packing up after the event.
  • Assists department leadership in strategic and operational planning.
  • Speaker installation – Ceiling mounting
  • Monitor installation – Wall mounting.

  • Assist with sign language interpretation – set up.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections of AV equipment.
  • Experience coordinating AV setups for events, meetings, or presentations.
  • Manage, update, and track scheduled events via current scheduling process.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and training to Audio Visual Tech 1 or other junior staff members.
  • Ability to lead small teams and delegate tasks as needed.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on client satisfaction.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical users.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients, colleagues, and vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in the AV field or a related technical field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written
  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of AV equipment and systems.
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Demonstrate ablity to work independently or with a team.
  • Experience with advanced AV technologies such as video conferencing systems, digital signage, and streaming media.
  • Quick learner.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple incidents simultaneously while adapting to constantly changing requirements.

Strong knowledge of engineering and construction fundamentals and operations. Strong organizational skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of Audio-Visual
  • Technology experience theater experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of audio-visual equipment, signal flow, and system integration.
  • Ability to independently set up, configure, and calibrate AV systems to meet client requirements.
  • Experience with advanced AV technologies such as video conferencing systems, digital signage, and streaming media.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to climb up and down ladders, lift 20 – 30 lbs., and run cabling in the ceiling.

 

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, ?ngers, and reach with hands and ?ngers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ?fty pounds. The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 12 months
