PURPOSE OF JOB: The HS Part-Time Early Learning Assistant assists instructors in the KCPS Head Start classroom and may provide extended learning activities for Head Start children enrolled in extended day (if hired for that shift).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Head Start instructors to effectively plan and implement lesson plans in the classroom and extended learning program, utilizing the approved curriculum, assessment and daily classroom routine.
- Promotes and supports children’s social, emotional and physical development consistent with the philosophy of Head Start, Trauma Smart, and Conscious Discipline classroom management techniques.
- Participates in cleaning and safety requirements of the Head Start program, to include following the C.A.S.E. transition procedure when moving children from one area of the school to another.
- Attends all assigned training and professional development opportunities.
- Monitors the arrival and departure of students according to Head Start requirements and keeps daily records of student attendance in the extended learning program, as applicable.
- Maintains a welcoming and professional environment for children and families.
- Adheres to all state childcare licensing regulations, Federal Head Start Program Performance Standards, to include supporting classroom ratio requirements.
- Treats children, families and colleagues with professionalism and supports a positive work environment that aligns with the philosophy of KCPS Head Start, Trauma Smart and Conscious Discipline.
- Follows district guidelines for reporting incidents of suspected abuse, neglect or contagious disease.
- Utilizes relevant district and Head Start software and technology effectively in the performance of duties. Completes paperwork according to assigned timelines and follows code of conduct and confidentiality policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma and have previous experience with and/or training for working with children in a learning environment.
- Ability to work with children ages three and four years old and understand the developmental needs of this age group.
- Successful completion of required background check and submission of an intitial physical and TB screening.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a Child Development Associate Cardential (CDA) and/or a two or four year undergraduate degree.
2.Willing to enroll in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA
credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary/Part-time
Length of work year: 10 months. Five (5) hours per day/5 days per week or according to the district calendar work days. This position follows the school calendar. Two shift options are available (1) A.M. shift 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or (2) P.M. shift 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Position cannot be coordinated with other full-time KCPS employment.
