PURPOSE OF JOB:  The coordinator assumes primary responsibility for providing leadership essential to maintaining a comprehensive program of instruction which is articulated through the grades, consistent among schools, sensitive to cultural diversity, and supportive of the district's initiative for quality curriculum, instruction, and professional development. Primary responsibilities also include providing leadership and support in the development and implementation of a challenging core curriculum and related assessments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Coordinates K-5 instructional program in field of expertise.
  2. Develops and monitors implementation of science core curriculum.
  3. Offers staff development on content and theme knowledge and delivery.
  4. Identifies, acquires and distributes resources to support core curriculum.
  5. Provides leadership for subject specific curriculum committees and department chairpersons.
  6. Identifies specific strategies and materials that provide culturally authentic experiences in all content areas.
  7. Serves as liaison and actively participates in curriculum and instructional professional organizations at state, regional and national levels.
  8. Monitors/observes curriculum implementation in classrooms and offers insight for the enhancement of teaching/learning to principals and teachers.
  9. Articulates the relationship of curriculum content with local state and federal initiative and guidelines.
  10. Demonstrates and models effective instructional practices for principals, instructional coaches and classroom teachers.
  11. Analyzes and communicates assessment results of Quarterly, M.A.P.  and other collected data on learning and teaching to assist teachers and students to identify and modify instructional practices to enhance student achievement.
  12. Has knowledge of the Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Science or related disciplines.
  • Hold or be eligible for Missouri teacher certification.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years teaching experience.
  • Background experience and/or knowledge in the subject area.
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment development.
  • Experience in conducting staff development in the content area.
  • Perform evidentiary presentation of teaching ability (provide one-on-one simulation) and submit written script or portfolio that demonstrates expertise in the area of adult training.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate or course work in multiple subject areas
  • Master’s degree in Administration
  • Teaching experience in urban schools
  • Experience as a Resource Teacher and/or administrator
  • Experience and/or training in curriculum alignment in subject area
  • Experience in designing and writing curriculum materials (guidelines, resource guides, programs, and activities) in subject area
