PURPOSE OF JOB:

The job of the Adult Education and Literacy Instructor is to provide instruction to adults in the areas of literacy, high school equivalency, workforce readiness, and English as a second language. The Instructor will enforce policies and regulatory requirements within the Adult Education Program.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage class site independently.
  2. Proctor assessments when needed.
  3. Create daily lesson plans based on student deficit areas and assessment data.
  4. Provide accommodation and differentiated instruction.
  5. Ability to instruct students in Math, English and Writing at the High School Equivalency level.
  6. Manage documentation for the class site, including student hours, testing information, student assignments, and learners’ education guide.
  7. Instructor will identify and respond to learners individual and group needs, interests and goals when conducting class.
  8. Instructors will create a physical and interpersonal climate that is conducive to learning by drawing on adult learning theory, knowledge of learners' cultures and interpersonal dynamics.
  9. Instructor will use technology in class and will advocate for its use outside of class through our digital platforms.
  10. Instructor will work variable hours and days as negotiated.
  11. Instructor will become familiar with the state standards and assessment tools to build assignments to meet student needs.
  12. Instructor will use current diagnostic information to target instruction.
  13. Instructor will be responsible for the retention and skill gain levels of their site to meet all Federal Targets
  14. Instructor will include workforce readiness skills in their lesson that are contextualized and based on real life situations.
  15. Instructors will use researcher-based materials written for adults.
  16. Complete other duties as defined and assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year:  10 month August to June 19, 2025 (The AEL Instructor will be employed for the term specified in the grant and the assigned site calendar), Part-Time; Not more than 25 Hours per week.
