PURPOSE OF JOB:  Provides leadership for the district for its technology systems, including the development, implementation, operation, security, monitoring and evaluation of all technology infrastructure and programs.  Coordinates the integration of technology systems and tools at each level of the District including the school sites.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following with other duties as assigned.

  1. Provides leadership for short-term and long-range planning for all technology initiatives, including updating the District technology plan yearly.
  2. Works with the Director of Instructional Technology to plan staff development activities and ensure an ongoing instructional program for all curriculum areas.
  3. Implements the District technology plan by purchasing equipment, software, related media and materials for information technology within the District.
  4. Manages access and security of District-wide information technology.
  5. Plans and coordinates implementation of special activities to promote information technology.
  6. Initiates innovative applications of information technology across the District through consultation and collaboration.
  7. Provides external and internal website services to Communications Department. 
  8. Reports to the CTO on the use of information technology at school sites and allocates available resources to align with District priorities for instructional technology.
  9. Supervises and ensures the District has a reliable telephone system and internet access.
  10. Develops and delivers reports as needed to KCPS administration and staff, grantors, funding agencies, administration and the Board of Directors.
  11. Responsible for the information technology budget and maintains appropriate fiscal records of all monies expended from the budget.
  12. Establishes procedures for utilization of existing and future data processing technology and equipment.
  13. Trains, supervises and coordinates the programming efforts of the District programming staff in the development and/or modification of software packages utilized by the District.
  14. Attends Board and/or Board Committee meetings as assigned.
  15. Performs other tasks and duties consistent with the goals and objectives of this position as assigned.
  16. Assists the District in gaining full accreditation and the Missouri School Improvement Program.
  17. Supervises, trains, assists, guides and evaluates all staff in the Information Technology Department and provides leadership for the Department.
  18. Supervises the district interaction with the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the USAC and compliance with SLD rules and regulations.
  19. Ensures the District accesses all governmental and private resources available to support its technology programs and plans.
  20. Writes proposals to obtain information technology related funding from private sources, state or federal government. Administers and provides accountability measures for all funding received from those sources.
  21. Assists in-house and/or outside legal counsel, as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 12 months   7.5 hours per day/ 5 days per week; 260 workdays
