PURPOSE OF JOB:
The District Language Access Interpreter and translator facilitates effective communication between families and educational stakeholders. They provide interpretation and translation services for students, parents, and other members of the community whose primary language is not English. The interpreter collaborates with other staff members and adheres to KCPS's policies, procedures, and guidelines governing ethical standards and best practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides high-quality, on-site, and remote language interpretation using technical terminology to ensure that cultural and linguistic nuances are respected and accurately conveyed with no additions or omissions of content.
- Provides consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation for meetings, conferences, events (day/evening), presentations, enrollment, and/or home visits as needed by KCPS, with varying schedules.
- Provides interpretation for district personnel, students, and families in various settings.
- Provides two-way communication in English and designated second language to request, obtain, relay, provide, and verify information among stakeholders to contribute to a positive and culturally responsive climate.
- Accurately and efficiently translates written materials as needed.
- Document services provided and assist with maintaining and organizing a variety of logs, records, and files related to interpretation and translation.
- Assists various KCPS district personnel in administering assessments to ensure that accurate test results are obtained.
- Proficient understanding of culturally responsive practices and ability to collaborate and build rapport with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Maintains confidentiality and upholds professional decorum.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies, including safety practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to clearly communicate across cultures and a variety of media.
- Communicate clearly in both written and verbal capacities.
- Bilingual and or Multilingual certification or ability to pass an interpretation and translation assessment.
- Proficient computer and project management skills.
- Experienced or Certified Interpreter, Bachelors Degree Preferred.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
- Three (3) years of successful experience working with students and parents/guardians.
- Coursework in education or practical experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: Length of work year: Works on a school year calendar/12 months; 7.5hrs/day, 5 days/week
