PURPOSE OF JOB: To provide developmentally appropriate extended learning activities for Pre-K children enrolled in Before & After Care. The ELBA will organize, monitor and direct developmentally appropriate activities for students before and after the school day while maintaining a clean and safe environment for children.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adheres to all state child care licensing regulations, KCPS Pre-K regulations and policies.

2. Monitors the arrival and departure of students according to Pre-K requirements and keeping daily records of students, as applicable.

3. Follows district guidelines for reporting incidents, suspected abuse, neglect or contagious disease, communicating with relevant building and program administrators in a timely manner.

4. Maintains minimum adequate staff-student ratio and supervisory requirements at all times.

5. Participates in cleaning and safety requirements of the Pre-K program, including following required transition procedures when moving children from one area of the school to another.

6. Promotes and supports children’s social, emotional and physical development consistent with the philosophy of Pre-K and Conscious Discipline classroom management techniques.

7. Maintains minimum adequate staff-student ratio and supervisory requirements at all times.

8. Maintains a welcoming and professional environment for children and families.

9. Attends all assigned training and professional development opportunities as required.

10. Utilize relevant district communications, email, software and technology effectively in the performance of duties.

11. Maintain up to date Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED-BL certification.

12. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a high school diploma and have previous experience with and/or training for working with children in a learning environment.

2. Desire and ability to work with children ages three and four years old and understand the developmental needs of this age group.

3. Individuals must have access to reliable transportation.

4. Must pass the pre-employment investigation, Criminal/Child Abuse background Check and submission of an initial physical and TB screening.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Qualifying score on the ParaPro Assessment or Sixty (60) college hours with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Twenty-four (24) of the sixty (60) hours must be in early childhood, youth development or child/family related courses.

2. Missouri state substitute teacher certification

3. Experience working with children and families in an urban setting

4. Possess a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and/or a two or four year undergraduate degree or willing to enroll in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Length of work year: 10 months. Five (5) hours per day/5 days per week or according to the district calendar work days. This position follows the school calendar. Two shift options are available (1) A.M. shift 6:45 a.m. to 8:15/9:15a.m. or (2) P.M. shift 2:45/3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Position cannot be coordinated with other full-time KCPS employment.
