PURPOSE OF JOB: The Early HS Infant/Toddler Part-time Learning Assistant assists instructors in the KCPS Early Head Start classroom at Central High School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Early Head Start instructors to effectively plan and implement lesson plans in the classroom and assists with providing breaks for teaching staff.
- Promotes and supports children’s social, emotional and physical development consistent with the philosophy of Head Start, Trauma Smart, and Conscious Discipline classroom management techniques.
- Participates in cleaning and safety requirements of the Early Head Start program compliant with state licensing regulations.
- Attends all assigned training and professional development opportunities.
- Maintains a welcoming and professional environment for children and families.
- Adheres to all state child care licensing regulations, Federal Head Start Program Performance Standards, to include supporting classroom ratio requirements.
- Treats children, families and colleagues with professionalism and supports a positive work environment that aligns with the philosophy of KCPS Head Start, Trauma Smart and Conscious Discipline.
- Follows district guidelines for reporting incidents of suspected abuse, neglect or contagious disease.
- Utilizes relevant district and Head Start software and technology effectively in the performance of duties. Completes paperwork according to assigned timelines and follows code of conduct and confidentiality policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma and have previous experience with and/or training for working with children in a learning environment.
- Ability to work with infants and toddlers ranging from 6-weeks to three years old and understand the developmental needs of this age group.
- Successful completion of required background check and submission of an initial physical and TB screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and/or a two or four year
undergraduate degree.
- Willing to enroll in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects/children of at least forty pounds; use stairs; move quickly from one space to another; spend extended time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; visual ability requires mono and color vision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 10 months. Five (5) hours per day/5 days per week or according to the district calendar workdays. This position follows the school calendar.
